1) Use a PS2 DVD remote kit (~$35) with a PS2 controller 2 USB adapter ($20) This is what I am currently using & it's dodgy at best. You can't turn on the PS3 with the remote & I can't get my Harmony 525 working properly with it, as it often send the command twice. I generally find myself using the PS3 game controller.
2) IR2BT ($55US + shipping)
Now this sounds sweet. It receives commands from certain Sony remotes (which you can program into your universal remote) & sends them to the PS3 over Bluetooth. It allows you to do everything that the normal PS3 bluetooth remote does

I don't have any answers here, but I know when I get a PS3 in the near future I'll be trying to use my N95 as a BT-Remote with the PS3 in Linux mode. There are heaps of BT-based remote softwares out for Linux, which will work with many, many, phones with BT which could potentially be beneficiaries for this approach...
