From 24 April 2006, New Zealand on account customers roaming on Vodafone Australia will again incur a roaming surcharge when sending TXT messages - a charge Vodafone has absorbed since 2000. Consistent with other roaming destinations, customers roaming on Vodafone Australia will incur a surcharge. Subject to exchange rates, a fee of 44 cents will be charged in addition to the flat rate of 20 cents (incl. GST) per txt.
That is .64 cents a text message to you and me. Subject to exchange rate as well. At approx 160 bytes max that prices text at about $4 p/1KB or $40 p/10KB or $400 p/100KB or $4000 p/meg
I am stunned is my Math out somewhere?

How STUPID! "absorbed" my foot. Same company, same system even, not just the same type, but they are directly linked!.... I can get a simcard there and pay something like 6c on the $49 cap. and why only "on account" It's just like my prepay being 30c, and a mate's on account being 20c. Typical Vodafone.. Telecom absorb much higher charges than that and are'e putting up the rates! I roamed to Australia last year, My 027 was expensive but roaming worked flawlessly, Vodafone gave me such grief I chopped my on accounts (they wanted to credit check me), been a customer for 4 years and had $200 CREDIT on my accounts for some time.. It was a nasty experience and the prepay I took didn't even work poperly.

To Clarify... Telecom ARENT putting up the rates.. Still 20c even though they are absorbing somewhat higher charges.
