The Cheese in Blackout on Monday 23rd

, posted: 21-Feb-2009 11:23

In protest of Section 92a of the New Zealand Copyright act, my website www.thecheese.co.nz will be in black on Monday 23rd.

This is my personal protest (along with many other people's) on the stupid change due to occur next week.
I always believe in 'innocent until proven guilty' and the changes to the Copyright Act will mean a person is automatically judged as guilty, with no re-course for proving your case.  This sucks.

You are the man. Section 92a of the New Zealand Copyright act is the biggest load of crap. Lets all Devolve as a whole.

Why not try to do a black theme for the listeners? Artists with the black in the name, or black in the title of the song, album name etc

I do not yet how the problems of internet can be solved though I have been a computer user for the last 20 years. If, th e most powerful U.S. and its innovative I.T people can't fix it I think we will have no resources at all here to fix problems
N Z Govt. needs to appoint a team of 100-200 MCSE like Professionals to work with Telecom and other ISPs to really solve the whole trouble.

Orn:  Thanks for your post.  I don't think there is any other country in the world who is doing what the NZ Government intends to do... that is.. immediately judge a user as GUILTY and request their ISP disconnect their service.  As someone else has pointed out on geekzone, how do they differentiate between one person in a household between another?  This is another major flaw of the proposed changes as many users these days have their own internal networks and share the internet connection between users.  So for one person's stupid mistake of downloading something illegal, everyone in the household gets punished.

It is hard to believe that internet can be blacked out like this.  Govt. has to re think on the law and constitute a committee of 100-200 MSCE like professsionals to deal with the problems everyone faces.  Any hasty decision will be putting thousands of people out of their jobs which is a disastrous thing to happen especially in this troubled recessionary times.

What happens when I go to http://indieheart.com/ and download an mp3 legally? It's a site for artists to upload their music to and showcase their music. There are many such sites around the world that I use. Where would Joy Gruttman have been with Schnappi without a similar site? Damn these guys need to remove their heads form their other holes and get real! They are stopping garage and home musicians from being heard and maybe becoming famous. I'll have to ask them to zip it for me to download. I bet the gummymint's favourite cheese is "fetid" (fetta).
