PHP 5 Framework Symfony 1.0

, posted: 5-Mar-2007 10:44

I've been using Symfony for quite a while; months before the recent stable released of version 1.0. I've abandoned it for sometime, while I was working on other non PHP projects, and I just got back to it again.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the features that made it to version 1.0 and how the online documentation has improved. I got back to it in no time, it's like riding a bike, I find it very intuitive even after not using it for sometime.

Symfony is about using the best practices of web development, kind of using the best breeds of tools out there. It uses Propel, Phing, PHP 5, OOP, templating, etc. Some say Symfony is the Rails of php, but I'm not a Ruby/Rails developer so I don't know if it's true.

And I got to love its unbelievably easy PEAR installation and upgrade!
