Should You Hold-off New PC Purchase?

, posted: 9-OCT-2006 06:54

Seeing that from now till Jan 2007, this is the period of transition from Windows XP to Windows Vista. And it seems like from Neowin.net that Microsoft is to offer free/discounted Vista for any new PC sold after 28th October 2006 (no indication of which region though), valid through March 15, 2007.

Details for prices include:
  • Widows XP Professional, XP Tablet PC Edition, and XP x64 Edition = a free upgrade
  • Windows XP Home = Vista Basic for $49 or Premium for $79

If NZ is part of the participating countries, then I'd probably hold-off my UMPC purchase, until November and wait in hope for an upgrade offer. *fingers crossed*

More information confirming Vista upgrade for new pc purchased between 26th Oct 2006 to 15 March 2007. Read "Buy a PC Now, Get Vista Later Says Microsoft" at Geekzone article.

And I've ordered my UMPC, and hopefully I soon be eligible to get the voucher upgrade for eo i7210 to Windows Vista.
