Stuff's staff technical knowledge

, posted: 26-Feb-2007 15:21

I am not too sure whether I should congratulate Stuff's staff for their good effort of able to pronounce SQL as "sequal" or to criticise their limited technical knowledge of what is an SQL server... Have a look at the screen capture of Stuff's news on "Hit enter to move to NZ" (at the tenth paragraph)... Update: It is my understanding that, we get people pronouncing SQL as ess-cue-el, or "sequel" but in this particular case, it is referring to a particular product and should identify it by its official product name, which is "Microsoft SQL Server" (pronounced as "Microsoft-sequel-server")

I know alot of people pronounce it "sequel" but I can't stand it!!@$*( SQL is an acronym not a word!
anyway, LOL at Stuff :-)

Yes MySQL is pronounced as it is written but MSSQL is sequel. I guess thats very confusing for the inept staff at Stuff.

I think that's understandable... a lot of the Americanised names and terms are hard for normal people. In the US, query, becomes "kwerry" for instance.

Microsoft was lucky though that the story wasn't about Onecare...
