Where do you get your games from?

, posted: 28-Feb-2007 09:40

Just over at The Consumerist, I read this article about "9 insider secrets from a retail video game salesman" and found that it's quite interesting with how Gamesman and EB stores are doing too in NZ. They push for membership/club. With EB, they do accept games-trade-in and 7 days trial/refund policy which is silly. It's good idea for those genuinely don't think the game is for them, however I have heard and seen some people abusing that policy by either, rush through the games to complete it in 7 days and return for refund or game swap, copy the games and return it. Anyhow, my curiosity got me thinking and wondering where do everyone get their games from? Dick Smith? Noel Leeming? Bond and Bond? Smith City? Harvey Norman? EB? Gamesman? Or your local games store? Perhaps the video rental store when they are selling off their ex-rental stuff? A NZ online store? TradeMe? Overseas/International online store? Personally, I get mine from GameStation in Christchurch as I have a long standing membership with them and I get good discount being a Gold member. Although I still go to Harvey Norman and EB IF they have really cheap/big sales on. I normally rent the games first to try out before deciding to make any purchase.

For me, wherever is cheapest. EB Games have really good sales once in a while for older games and I typically help myself to something I didn't get around to buying on its release. But mostly I use my staff discount at a major NZ retailer, plus they also tend to sell major new releases cheaper than most places. One other place I've also purchased from is Steam, and as they extend their library of available games I may start using it more often.

I get all of my games from DSE, as I have never been impressed with my local EB store.
