Nintendo in NZ is in jeopardy - Softprint Interactive in receivership

, posted: 3-Jun-2008 16:24

As the blog title mentioned... All Nintendo activities in NZ will severely be affected due to the key and only distributor in NZ for Nintendo (as well as Activision) is under receivership with all stocks currently being held up in the process. This is the key reason why NZ hasn't got Mario Kart for Wii officially through other channels and retails other than EB stores. This could also mean all future Nintento Wii and DS titles are in big shakeup until Nintendo can find a new distributor or set up their presence in NZ (or, have an Nintendo Australia set up an office in NZ). The titles that I am/was looking forward to are Mario Kart for Wii, Super Smashing Brawl, Guitar Hero On Tour etc...

Good - hopefully a competent distributor takes its place. We've been screwed over on Nintendo prices for too long. $100 for a WiiMote? Fun. You can order the same thing from Japan for ~$58.

A suggestion made at Geekpulp is that: make a pre-order for Super Smashin' Bros Brawl (SSBB) at EB stores to build up the pre-order number. This is to show Nintendo Australia that there is a good amount of demand wanting this games (and any possible other Nintendo Wii/DS titles - if any other pre-order is made too). Now, with the EB stores pre-order, you are not locked in or obligated to fully purchase the item. It is a pre-order and at any stage, one can cancel the pre-order. I do hope Nintendo will consider setting up their official presence in NZ and start putting a good effort on promoting and make Nintendo names bigger, and bringing more good titles as soon as possible.

I ordered a Wii thru Noel Leeming on about the 25th May, and now GOD only knows when it'll arrive :( Worst of all.. I financed it - and the company lodged the finance the same day I ordered it, despite me only taking possession of $200 worth of the $1000 purchase!!
