Samsung New Zealand has confirmed its much-anticipated third generation GALAXY S smartphone – the GALAXY S III – will hit shelves across New Zealand today, 31st May.
Since the global GALAXY S III launch announcement on 4 May, Samsung has received more than nine million pre-orders globally.
Based on the concept of natural interaction, the new GALAXY S III is designed to provide an intuitive smartphone experience combining innovative technology – such as face and motion recognition – and smart design to create the ultimate Samsung smartphone device.
Stefan Lecchi, Head of Telecommunications for Samsung New Zealand believes the GALAXY S III sets a new benchmark in smartphone technology and design.
“With the GALAXY S III, Samsung has added a different layer to the smartphone experience – through both its exceptional hardware and its intuitive usability,” he says.
“This device doesn’t just look sleek; it is designed to be effortlessly smart and intuitively simple – something that smartphone users everywhere crave. The new GALAXY S III not only seeks to deliver on our focus on innovation and design, it offers a highly personalised mobile experience.”
The GALAXY S III features a Samsung Exynos 4 Quad processor, a Quad-Core CPU and GPU processor offering exceptional performance that is fast enough to provide a great multi-tasking and intuitive user experience. For example, a video can continue to play on screen while users simultaneously browse the Internet or send a message. The device is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Users can also easily view content thanks to the device’s 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display. An 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera also give users a variety of intelligent camera features and face recognition-related options to ensure moments can be captured easily and shared virtually instantly.
The GALAXY S III is smart enough to recognise your face, voice and movements and adapt itself to provide an individualised and natural user experience.
Meanwhile, the innovative ‘Smart Stay’ feature recognises, through its front camera, when you’re looking at the screen – for example reading an e-book or browsing the web. ‘Smart Stay’ can identify a line of eyesight to help maintain a bright display for continued viewing pleasure, without turning the display off.
The GALAXY S III features ‘S Voice’, an advanced language user interface, designed to listen and try and respond to your words. In addition to providing information search and basic device-user communication via voice control, the ‘S Voice’ feature also delivers some other handy features – for example, when your phone alarm goes off in the morning but you need a little extra rest, just tell the GALAXY S III to “snooze.” You can also use ‘S Voice’ to play your favourite songs, turn the volume up or down, send text messages and emails, organise your schedules, and automatically launch the camera and capture a photo.
In addition to being able to recognise your face and voice, the GALAXY S III can understand your motions to provide an intuitive user experience. If you are messaging someone but decide to call instead, simply lift your phone to your ear and ‘Direct call’ can dial the number. With ‘Smart alert,’ the GALAXY S III might also save you from trouble by catching missed messages or calls; your phone will vibrate to notify missed statuses when picked up after being idle.
The new ‘S Beam’ feature improves on the performance of Android Beam by transferring files using Wi-Fi Direct technology – so a 1GB movie file or 10MB music file can be easily shared with friends, family and colleagues by simply by touching another GALAXY S III phone and beaming the content over, even without a fixed Wi-Fi or network signal. The ‘Buddy Photo Share’ function also enables photos to be easily shared with friends that have been tagged or identified in photos.
With ‘AllShare Cast’, you can wirelessly connect your GALAXY S III to a compatible television to transfer smartphone content onto a larger display. ‘AllShare Play’ can also be used to share files between GALAXY S III and your DLNA supported tablet, PC and televisions to display it on different screens.
AllShare Play includes a ‘Screen Share’ feature that enables you to share your screen among multiple friends with compatible devices on the same Wi-Fi network. You can make comments and make changes at the same time with your co-workers, witnessing virtually real-time sharing on your individual device. The preloaded ‘Dropbox’ application provides a convenient sharing experience, supplying 50GB of free storage for two years for image and music files and now also for video content. With the GALAXY S III, content uploaded on the Dropbox can be automatically synced on other compatible devices.
The device will be available Marble White at launch, to be followed by Pebble Blue in early June.
