Opus selects Symantec for endpoint security
Posted on 3-Dec-2012 10:57. | Tags Filed under: News.

Global infrastructure consultancy Opus International Consultants has rolled out Symantec Endpoint Protection to almost 3,000 endpoints around the world.

Before selecting Symantec for all its endpoint security needs, the Wellington-headquartered company explored several security vendors to determine which solution could meet its changing long term requirements. After reviewing solutions from four vendors, Opus selected Symantec Endpoint Protection based on Symantec’s industry reputation, future-proofing, functionality, ease of use, seamless migration, ease of updating and competitive price point.

Opus has a complex IT environment with a range of operating systems. The company runs Microsoft on desktops and Linux environments on servers and around one third of the fleet of 2,500-3,000 machines are laptops. Opus’ global workforce requires a licensing and support model that can cope with technology deployed globally and managed locally.

Bruce Tinsley, CIO Opus International Consultants, said that within Opus’ distributed and disparate IT environment, Symantec Endpoint Protection fared best in the company’s in-house testing and competitive evaluation.

“A few users were resistant but they were quickly won over by the ease of use and quality performance,” said Bruce. “I was pleasantly surprised at the simplicity of the transition from our previous provider and the overall implementation as well as the level of protection.”

Opus is currently upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 which provides defence against all types of attacks. Symantec Endpoint Protection is powered by Insight which uses reputation security technology to tracks billions of files from millions of systems to identify new threats as they are created. Symantec Insight is the only system in the world that tracks the age, prevalence and security rating of nearly every programme file on the internet. This technology enables Symantec to provide the fastest, most powerful endpoint antivirus software solution available for both virtual and physical systems.

In addition, the upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 enables seamless integration of the essential antivirus security tools into a single, high performance agent with a single management console.

“The upgrade is straightforward and is going very smoothly,” said Bruce. “The functionality is great and the management capability is excellent.”
“We spend time understanding our customers’ needs and building solutions that meet their requirements for today and well into the future,” said Brenton Smith, vice president and managing director, Pacific region, Symantec. “Opus is just one example of how we’ve worked hard to ensure the security and performance of Symantec Endpoint Protection remains unrivalled, even within complex IT environments. We’re very pleased with the outcomes we’ve achieved at Opus and look forward to continuing our successful relationship.”

“Looking into the future, we have plans to add smartphones and tablets into our network and Symantec has the mobile data management and protection capabilities to meet our requirements. In addition, Symantec has a proactive programme of both developing technologies and acquiring organisations that extend its endpoint management and security tools. Symantec makes more than just incremental enhancements to its solutions and that’s another reason why we chose to invest with Symantec,” added Bruce.
