Rapoo E9080 review
Posted on 3-Dec-2012 15:30 by M Freitas. | Tags Filed under: Reviews.

The Rapoo E9080 wireless keyboard is perfect for those modern home office setups, where you put your laptop on a stand for better reading and air flow - but then need an external keyboard to make effective use of your tool. Or for those lounge setup, complementing your media center PC.

Either way, this keyboard is an interesting take on input devices.

First it's very thin at only 5.6mm, and the body is made of stainless steel. Second it incorporates a dual purpose surface that can be used either as a numerical pad for quick number input, or as a touchpad interface for your PC.

Connection to the laptop is through a nano receiver, those very small USB wireless adapters that are so little you can practically put in one of the ports and forget it's there. The keys themselves are of good size and have a nice travel and comforting "click" when pressed. They seem sturdy enough and the letters are of a nice grey colour.

The function keys row can also be used for multimedia management, including the usual play, pause, stop, fast forward, rewind and volume up/down/mute options. They also include home and email keys that will take you directly to the default programs handling your web browsing and emails. The touchpad is a case apart. I don't really use the number keypard in my computer that much, for me the Rapoo E9080 was mainly used as a touchpad. Basically you slide our finger at the bottom and it switches functions between numerical keypad or touchpad.

It is nice and fast, although it takes a little to get used to having the touchpad on your right instead of the centre as most laptops would have. Once you get use to it, there's no problems using.

The touchapd has only three functions basically: one finger tap for left click, three fingers tap for right click and two fingers scroll up and down. These are the documented functions. I found out that you can open an image with the default viewer and if you slide two fingers left-to-right (or vice-versa) you can flick through the images in the folder, the same as using the left or rights arrows in your keyboard. I do miss the drag-and-drop option though.

All this without having to install any software on your PC. Basically you plug the nano receiver and away you go. If you want visual indicators in your system tray you can download a small utility from the manufacturer website. It will not add any new functionality to the keyboard itself, only show you the current status of your keyboard. Battery life is quite good as well and I am still using the original batteries after a couple of months.

Pros
- Slim design, perfect for modern offices and living areas
- Plug and play, no software needed
- Space saver

Cons
- No support for drag-and-drop
