Vodafone launches cheaper Android option for prepay users
Great news for Kiwi Android lovers. If you’re in the market for a new mobile phone that’s easy on your wallet, the new Vodafone Smart Mini could be just what you’re looking for.

Launched today, the Smart Mini is the latest and most affordable addition to the Vodafone Smart line-up; a sleek, compact smartphone without any compromise on performance – for just $99.

Perfect for new smartphone users, the Smart Mini is a mini handset designed to deliver the complete mobile experience – from simple messaging through to multimedia apps and sophisticated location-based services.

With features including a 3.5” touch screen display and 1GHz processor, the Smart Mini comes with Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system, a 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom and 4GB of expandable memory (with microSD cards).

Todd Hardie, Vodafone Head of Terminals, says the Smart Mini will bring a new wave of consumers to the smartphone world for the first time.

“The Smart Mini is the perfect phone for Kiwis wanting to see what Android is all about. At just $99, it’s the best entry-level smartphone in the Vodafone range – but that doesn’t mean the phone’s potential is as small as its price tag.

“It’s full of powerful messaging features – including push email, Facebook integration and pre-loaded Twitter – while the easy access online app store brings a wealth of games, tools, social apps and entertainment to your fingertips.”

The Smart Mini is available exclusively from Vodafone priced at $99, and comes bundled with Prepay Smart Data SIM pack. At the $99 price point, the Smart Mini is network locked for the first nine months of use – or can be unlocked for a one-off fee of $30. After nine months, there is no charge to unlock the phone. An unlocked version of the Smart Mini is available for $129.

Customers who purchase the Smart Mini will also enjoy the benefits of Data Angel, a service exclusive to Vodafone which enables smartphone users to control their data allowance.

Available in astro black from 1 July, Vodafone will also offer the Smart Mini in hot pink from mid July.
