Apple’s New 64 Bit A8 Chip: What You Need to Know

Bill Bennett:

“A 64 bit 20 nm chip puts the A8 right on par with a desktop processor.”

Now that’s interesting. It means Apple has a potential alternative to Intel when building the next MacBook Air generation.

apple_a8_manufacture_rumor_0Apple announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus today which use the new 64 bit A8 chip. Of course this is no surprise. Predicting an A8 is like predicting that baseball will start in April.

The A8 processor uses 2 billion transistors. This is twice as many as the previous A7 chip. What does this mean? I will explain:
