MYOB grows its developer partner network
Accounting software provider MYOB has reached a new milestone with its API program, attracting more than 2000 API developer partners to the ecosystem in just two years.

MYOB has introduced APIs for flagship products AccountRight and Essentials that cater to small businesses. With over 150 add-on solutions in MYOB’s network, the company is focused on ensuring that add-on partners contribute to making business life easier for small businesses in New Zealand and Australia.

“We’re delighted with the strong and growing network of API partners that we have attracted,” says SME Solutions General Manager James Scollay. “The MYOB API program achieves two great outcomes that can only be enabled by cloud accounting technology.

“Firstly, the MYOB API program provides our small business customers with access to integrated end-to-end business management solutions that can transform their business, and were previously only available to large enterprises,” Mr Scollay says.

“Secondly, the MYOB API program encourages and supports innovation by providing a platform upon which technology entrepreneurs can launch and grow their businesses. This allows them to leverage what is often limited funding for start-ups because they can join our API program for free and easily integrate using our world class APIs, as well as instantly access the users of our software.”

MYOB launched its API program in March 2013, starting with an API for its flagship cloud accounting solution AccountRight – a cloud-enabled accounting solution with a rich desktop interface.

“We have such a comprehensive set of functions that range across business management and accounting so we really prioritise in ensuring that our add-on solutions are feature enhancements, rather than gap fillers. That’s really important for our API program, and part of the reason we are so successful,” says Mr. Scollay.

New Zealand job management software company, SmartJobs, has implemented MYOB APIs. Founder Curtis Bailey says the company continues to benefit from the ease and simplicity of the integration

"We’ve found the MYOB API team fantastic to work with. Integrating with a third party API can be a complex task but the MYOB team made this process easy for us. The ability to pick up the phone and get answers to tricky technical questions makes life much easier,” says Bailey.

MYOB’s API partners had the opportunity to exhibit at the MYOB 2015 Roadshow during February. The Roadshow visited eight major cities in New Zealand and Australia, with over 10,000 registrations from accountants and bookkeepers.

The API is available for use with any programming language and any platform, such as Mac and Windows, including devices running iOS, Android and Windows Mobile operating systems. The developer program, which offers three levels of membership to suit different needs, is open and free to anyone wanting to create and integrate add-on solutions that make business life easier for MYOB clients.
