China and SMS: a story about the New Year
Posted on 13-Feb-2003 23:14. | Tags Filed under: News.

China Mobile communications Corp has 2/3 of the Chinese mobile market. And this is a big market. Imagine 80 billions SMS in 2002, compared to 15.9 billion in 2001.

In the first seven days of the Chinese New Year, seven billion text messages were sent!

By the way, the articles says "Why call when it's cheaper and faster to use SMS? That's what China's 200 mobile-phone users did during the Chinese New Year. Their busy fingers sent a record seven billion text messages in the first seven days of the festive period alone."

This is a typo, there would be no way to 200 people to send seven billion text messages, unless they're big spammers .
