How to Hotsync your palmOne Zire 72 over Bluetooth
Posted on 11-May-2004 22:46 by M Freitas. | Tags Filed under: Articles.

The Palm Zire 72 provides users with a new Bluetooth Wizard. We show in this article how to configure your computer and how to use the Wizard to complete a Hotsync via Bluetooth.

In this article we used the palmOne Zire 72 and a Bluetake BT009-M USB Bluetooth (version 1.3.4).

Check out other Geekzone Bluetooth Guides for more step-by-step pages!

First we need to know exactly what COM port the Zire will use to establish a serial link with your computer. Right-click the Bluetooth icon in your System Tray, and select Advanced Configuration. Select the Local Services tab, and you'll see a dialog like the one below. Take note of the value in the Bluetooth Serial Port service. In this case it's COM7. You can close this dialog without changing any setting.

Next step we'll configure the Hotsync program to wait for incoming connections on this COM port, in addition to any other in use (the USB for example). Right-click the Hotsync icon in the System Tray and check the Local Serial option.

Now right-click the Hotsync icon in the System Tray again and select Setup. Change to the Local tab and make sure you check the COM port corresponding to the one found in the previous step. Close this dialog. This is all is needed on your computer.

On your Zire we have to follow the Wizard and simply select what Bluetooth enabled desktop or laptop we want to connect. From the Launcher, find the Bluetooth icon and tap it. Make sure you turn bluetooth on. tap the Setup devices button:

On this dialog, tap the PC Setup button:

Select the Bluetooth Hotsync option:

Tap Next:

Make sure your computer is in discoverable mode. If it doesn't show up on this dialog, try the Find More button. Select the name of your computer, and tap OK:

Tap the Next button in the following screens:

And on this dialog tap Launch Hotsync:

The Hotsync application will start and try to connect to your computer:

From now on, to start a Bluetooth Hotsync, simply start the Hotsync application on your Palm, and from the synchronisation list simply select the computer name, and tap the Hostync symbol:
