Juniper Systems provides rugged field computing products for natural resource, agriculture, and other rugged markets. AA new model is being added to their line of Windows CE based devices. The Allegro CX should be available from the 3rd week in June in limited quantities, and be in full production late July/August.
The new model comes with an Intel XScale CPU @ 400 Mhz, optional colour screen, and RAM configuration of 64 or 128MB. The colour screen model comes with built-in Bluetooth (10m range), and there are options for integrated GPS receiver, 802.11b, bar code scanner, RFID and other custom pods.
The company plans to ship this new models with Microsoft Windows CE .NET4.2, replacing the CE 3.0 available in its previous version, the Allegro CE.
The color TFT active matrix transflective LCD 1/4 VGA, 320 x 240 pixels, landscape view and .24 mm dot pitch, .23 mm dot size (.26mm dot pitch and .25mm dot size on monochrome units). A "touchscreen disable" button allows users to clean the screen or operate unit in inclement weather. There's a display heater for operation in cold environments; heater can be set to turn on automatically when temperature is cold enough to require heater.
Expansion is available through 16 bit PC Card (type I or II), including ATA, Compact Flash, CF Hard disk, and other cards. A solid state disk storage is available (128 MB, 512 MB, or 1 GB).
