German mobile telecommunications provider T-Mobile International AG Monday said it will launch a smartphone that uses Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system across its major markets during Summer 2003.
The phone will be the second smartphone to become available that uses Microsoft's software following the launch of Anglo-French operator Orange SA's ( F.ORA) SPV model in October 2002.
Microsoft, which is presenting at the 3GSM World Congress 2003 in Cannes, said the smartphone will be manufactured by High Tech Computer Corp. , and will include applications such as photo messaging, rich web access, mobile e- mail and messaging.
An exact release date wasn't revealed, but analysts expect it could come in the early summer and coupled with a large advertising campaign.
T-Mobile has more than 82 million customers and operates in the United States, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Russia.
