Schindler Elevator rolls out new customised Pocket PC, the Schindler FieldLink
The company is working with a customised Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition device, called the Schindler FieldLink. The handheld is used for elevator and escalator service, and the company says it's the newest technology in the Schindler SENSE (Schindler Elevator Network for Service Excellence) maintenance program. By using this device the company expects to set new standards for elevator and escalator uptime and fast, responsive service in every service technician's hands.

The Schindler FieldLink combines technician dispatching, parts ordering, service manual, troubleshooting and cell phone technologies all in one device. By utilizing all of these technologies, Schindler is able to provide customized elevator and escalator service for every building in its maintenance portfolio. Schindler FieldLink also expands the capabilities of Schindler's service technicians, who are among the most highly trained in the industry. The FieldLink provides the information and service support that helps make Schindler technicians more efficient, and helps maximize equipment operation.

The Schindler FieldLink is a fully functional secure hand held computer that provides Schindler service technicians with the following capabilities:

  • Service call handling
  • Nationwide messaging
  • Preventive Maintenance tasking
  • Service parts ordering
  • Equipment troubleshooting
  • Equipment database
  • Equipment service history
  • Integration with Schindler Remote Monitoring systems
  • Real-time voice and data communications
  • Diagnostic interface for numerous elevator controls

    FieldLink features acronym-bearing platform, the OSCAR (On Site Callback Assistance Resource), which provides troubleshooting solutions for the most common types of elevator and escalator issues on a wide variety of equipment brands. OSCAR is continuously updated with the most current equipment information. In a few clicks on the screen, a technician can quickly identify causes and solutions for the specific equipment in question.

    When a Schindler technician completes a service call, all information is uploaded, on the spot, through the FieldLink. The wireless technology that powers the device sends all service activity information directly to the Schindler Customer Score Card.
