Ironman Wireless is a subscription-based service bringing up-to-the-minute updates of the 2004 Ironman Triathlon World Championship to mobile phones via text messaging (SMS).
Ironman fans, athletes and sponsors worldwide will be able to get timely updates on the more than 1,700 Ironman contestants in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on 16 October 2004. Fans can follow the swimming, running and biking via their mobile phones - getting athlete's split times, color commentary, weather and more. The service is a partnership with Triathlete Magazine and World Triathlon Corporation and a subscription is a one-time charge of US$9.95.
"Races like the Triathlon Championship attract major television sponsors but the massive scope and terrain of the race usually prevents them from covering it live," said Jeff Pokonosky, president of WiggleWireless. "Avid sports fans want up-to-the-minute updates, which is why we created Ironman Wireless - to bring the excitement of these large-scale, live events to die-hard fans around the world anywhere they are."
Ironman Wireless is offering up to five distinct channels covering every detail of the 2004 Hawaii Ironman to U.S. and international subscribers, including:
Channel 1: Athlete Tracker - Real-time athlete splits for IronmanLive. Know where your athlete stands throughout the race without waiting for the evening news. Subscribers are able to choose up to 3 athletes to track and have up to 11 split times sent directly to their mobile phones during the first 17 hours of IronMan Hawaii.
