Nokia and Ford are presenting an integrated mobile phone communications solution that was developed especially for Ford vehicles. The new Nokia handsfree system with voice activation and Bluetooth connectivity offers a range of features and can be used with mobile phones from various manufacturers. The system supports two connection options: Bluetooth connectivity and cable connection in conjunction with a mobile holder.
Depending on the mobile phone and connection chosen, the user can access the phone's communications functions using the car displays and the control buttons of the vehicle. These functions include searching the phonebook, initiating and taking calls, as well as reading and sending text messages. Incoming calls and messages are shown on the radio display. Many functions can also be voice activated, using various speaker-dependent or speaker-independent commands. An external GSM antenna improves sound quality in handsfree operation.
This communications solution is a product of Nokia's partnership with Ford and it is intended to offer Ford customers special benefits. By integrating the innovative Nokia handsfree system in the new Ford Focus, as well as the Focus C-Max and other Ford models in the near future, Nokia and Ford have found a solution that gives Ford owners an added measure of freedom.
The handsfree system is expected to be available in Europe starting 4th quarter 2004.
