Casio introduces ruggedised VGA Windows Mobile Pocket PC
Casio, Inc., has announced the released of the new IT-10 Enterprise PDA, to be available from December 2004 for a suggested price of US$999. The IT-10 has been engineered to be shock, water and dust resistant, making it ideal for heavy duty use in tough environments.

"Casio, through its years of PDA development experience, has designed the new IT-10 model with the portability, functionality, durability and superior hardware that the business market demands, said Larry Sampey, General Manager of the Systems Products Division." "Casio strongly believes this new model will energize and expand the Enterprise PDA market," he continued.

The IT-10 is shock-resistant to withstand a drop from 3.3 feet (1.0 m) and complies with the IP 54 rating for dust and splash resistance. It comes with a 3.7-inch TFT VGA LCD and is based on Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, making it capable of working in either landscape or portrait viewing. There are two models, the IT-10 M20 and IT-10 M20BR (with Bluetooth and wireless LAN).

The company says its 2,300 mAh rechargeable battery can power the device for up to 27 hours of continuous use on the lower end model. A NiMH battery (rechargeable) on board provides up to 30 minutes power for memory backup. It also has two expansion slots, a CF card slot and SD slot with SDIO Now! software that enables use with memory cards, scanner cards, camera cards, wireless LAN cards etc.

The IT-10 is based on an Intel PXA270 416MHz CPU, with 64MB RAM and 64MB flash ROM with 20MB free for permanent storage. It's a compact design with 140 mm (H) x 80 mm (W) x 25 mm (D) (5.5" (H) x 3.1" (W) x 1.0" (D)). IT weights 290g.
