Telecom New Zealand launches song identification via mobile phone
Posted on 27-May-2005 18:11. | Tags Filed under: News.

Telecom New Zealand users have now a new service that helps identifying songs through a mobile phone. User can call *7664 (SONG) from any Telecom mobile phone and hold it in the direction of the music for 30 seconds. The Song Id service will automatically end the call, then send the SMS with the name of the track and the artist.

According to Telecom New Zealand, the Song ID database has over 2.6 million tracks and it is updated daily.

The Song ID service is available to all mobile phone with the code 027 and 025 (Telecom and Boost Mobiles) within New Zealand. The mobile handset must be SMS capable. The service will not work if the number withhold functionality is enabled, but users can dial a special code to temporarily disable this feature.

Telecom says that Song ID identifies pre-recorded music, but cannot identify live or classical music.
