Microsoft The Hive Beta is live
Microsoft is releasing a web site for community leaders, webmasters and owners of online group or website that helps others get more out of their PCs, people passionate about consumer technology.

The Hive helps site owners/editor/administrators to connect with other community leaders.

So what's interesting about this? Well, it is a place where community leaders can go to discuss topics that are related to technology, get some insider news and information about Microsoft Windows products, share tips and ideas to help improve community sites, and more. This information can then be used in each one's own sites.

The FAQ says that discussions will be about using technology and helping others using technology, not about coding/development and deployment.

Microsoft is providing the basic resources for The Hive, like server space and the kick start. But the actual day-to-day management is handled by independent moderators from community sites. It is good for them because it is a place for community leaders to stay in the know and share their opinions about Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft products.

Geekzone is one of the initial sponsors, with other sites like ActiveWin, Digital Thoughts Media (the guys behind Pocket PC Thoughts, Smartphone Thoughs and Digital Media Thoughts), MediaBlab, PROneTworks Technology, Doug's Windows 95/98/ME/XP Tweaks and Tips, Techconnect Magazine, The Tablet PC Net and Windows Media User's Group of Los Angeles Website.

You have to apply for membership and credentials will be checked. If you have more than 50 members in your community, and you think this is an interesting proposition, visit The Hive and apply for membership.
