Microsoft announces Windows Vista as official name for Windows codename Longhorn




Microsoft Corp. has announced Windows Vista as the official name of its next-generation Windows client operating system, formerly code-named “Longhorn.”

The announcement came from Brian Valentine, Senior Vice President, Windows Core Operating System Division and Kevin Johnson, Group Vice President, Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Services at the Microsoft Global Business Conference (MGB) in Atlanta.

It was also disclosed the dates for the next stage of this development. The Beta 1, targeted at developers and IT professionals will be available by 3 August 2005.
