Handango has entered the market for downloadable Tablet PC software with the launch of a Tablet PC catalog. Customers can download applications on Handango's Web site and on the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Software Store. The same catalog is also available through the Geekzone Software Store (Tablet PC).
Additionally, Handango has extended its marketplace platform, Handango AMPP, to support Tablet PC applications, enabling Tablet PC manufacturers to create new streams of revenue through their own branded software storefronts.
Since the launch of Tablet PCs in 2002, more than one million devices have been shipped. According to IDC, Tablet PC shipments are predicted to rise more than 85 percent in the next two years, creating a rich market for Tablet PC software.
"Microsoft is pleased to support Handango's entrance into this industry," said Robert Williams, director of business development for the Mobile Platforms Division at Microsoft. "We see Handango doing for Tablet PCs what it has done in other mobile download industries - providing developers with a simple and scalable path to market while offering customers an excellent selection of software products for their mobile computers."
Commercial software development for Tablet PC is also on an aggressive upward trajectory. Handango estimates that more than 400 applications will be available by the end of 2006.
Handango provides Tablet PC developers with a suite of go-to-market services, including a wide variety of demand generation programs and distribution on Handango's Web site and Handango-powered channels. Additionally, Tablet PC developers can license Handango's e-commerce platform for sales of software from their own web sites.
