Some Impressive IT Numbers
Posted on 17-Nov-2005 09:54 by M Freitas. | Tags Filed under: Blog.

Just looked at some numbers posted on bink.nu regarding the Microsoft IT infrastructure:

"Microsoft IT consists of more than 3,500 staff members responsible for ensuring that more than 56,000 employees and 25,000 contractors and vendors in more than 400 Microsoft locations are able to access corporate network services and resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from around the world.

The Microsoft corporate network…

  • is powered by approximately 7,500 servers worldwide running approximately 400 LOB applications.
  • manages the connectivity of more than 300,000 PCs and devices.
  • uses 36 Microsoft Exchange Servers internally (down from 118 last year).
  • supports more than 400 Microsoft websites in approximately 230 cities in 77 countries/regions.
  • manages more than 4,000 wireless access points worldwide.
  • runs seven datacentre sites (reduced from 74 over the past three years).
  • manages the world’s largest experimental computer network.

Wow... To get the idea of the size of this infrastrucure - actually where all this came from, I recommend you watch Pirates of Silicon Valley (IMDB, with link to Pirates of Silicon Valley Official Site).
