Visual Mind v8 Out Now
If you are a fan of Mind Maps, then you might want to have a look at Visual Mind. The developers have just announced Visual Mind v8 with lots of improvements.

I personally use MindManager, which is a very powerful tool, with a rich feature set, including full ink support for tablet PCs - which is fantastic. But if you an alternative, Visual Mind is very capable and can do a great job.

According to their newsletter, the new version offers a set of new features:

  • Print to Visual Mind (Available in Business Edition only): Printing to Visual Mind allows you to use Visual Mind as your electronic print basket. You can now print documents to Visual Mind, using the print command from any Windows application. The result is a PDF document that you can insert to any location in your Visual Mind maps.

  • Reminders (Available in Business Edition only): Visual Mind can now remind you about important appointments and tasks. Just set the date & time, and Visual Mind will remind you in time.

  • Structures: Structures will save you time by allowing you to insert frequently used information with just one mouse click. In addition to the predefined structures that comes with Visual Mind ("Weekdays", "Pros & cons", etc.) , you may also create your own structures.

  • Styles: Styles allow you to set mulitple properties of a branch (font, color, shape, etc.) with just one mouse click. In addition to the predefined styles that comes with Visual Mind ("Important", "Obsolete", etc.), you are free to define your own set of styles.

  • Easier colour handling: If color is an important element in your Visual Mind maps, then the color selection and management is much quicker and easier in Visual Mind 8.

  • Support for IP Telephony: In addition to analog telephony, you can now also make VoIP (IP telephony) calls from within Visual Mind.

  • Share map access: Visual Mind 8 includes functions to control access to shared maps. This allows several users to share a map without risking overwriting each other changes.

  • Dynamic shape sizing: In earlier versions of Visual Mind, the size of the shapes were fixed. Visual Mind 8 gives you more freedom by allowing you to set the exact dimension of a shape.

  • PDF export (Available in Business Edition only): With the version 8 release, Visual Mind now supports exporting a Visual Mind map to PDF.

  • Document information: With Visual Mind 8, you can now apply document information (author name, author phone, document number, revision, etc.) to your Visual Mind maps. This information will appear when printing your maps, according to the ISO 9001:2000 standard of document control.
