Scammers Now Using Vodafone Brand
Posted on 11-Jan-2006 18:12 by M Freitas. | Tags Filed under: Blog.

Wow... Just got an e-mail from "Vodafone" telling me I am a winner! According to this e-mail, Vodafone is sponsoring a lottery that puts me (with other 187 "lucky winners") in a final draw to win some big money.

What's interesting is that this is a move from the usual purportedly "Microsoft" sponsored lottery scam, to using a well known mobile brand - even a logo is part of the e-mail.

In the meantime, my e-mail was approved for a GBP 2.5 million (British Pounds) prize on a monthly draw. Note that the total prize pool is actually in US Dollars, making it smaller than my own individual prize in British Pounds. They can't even calculate currency!

I think the computers running this lottery are not very well too, because apparently "due to the computer mix up of some numbers and email contacts, we ask that you keep this award strictly from public notice until your claim has been processed and your money remitted."...

So, in the hope of receiving all this money from Vodafone, I will not disclose my winning numbers, until I contact the managers in that special e-mail address. Yeah, right...

C'mon... Who is falling for this? They only keep sending this type of scam because some greedy people are buying this. There's no other possibility. People fall on these traps because they are greedy and think they can earn lots with little.

Remember, it's only in the dictionary you can find profit before work...

The email (with all its spelling error, mistakes and whatever else) reads:

In Conjunction with The National Organizing
Committe of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft 2006
