The Start Button Evolution
Microsoft Windows has been part of our daily lives for longer than 10 years. But the well known Start Button appeared just over 10 years ago. In this decade it assumed quite a few different forms.

Some official, such as the ones released with the software, and some unofficial ones, those in beta versions.

Developers and user interface designers worked on this important piece of Windows and continue to work. The latest incarnation (with the latest Windows Vista CTP as of February 2006) is just a round button, without the Start word - but the idea is still there.

Daniel Wissa's .Net Journey documents these buttons - an interesting walk down the memory lane, if you are so inclined.

The original list is here, but IE 7.0 is not showing all images, and Daniel's list is arranged in an easier to view format.
