NewsGator Extends RSS Services To Windows Mobile and Java-enabled Devices
NewsGator Technologies, Inc. has expanded its mobile portfolio with new RSS aggregators for Windows Mobile and J2ME-enabled devices. The new products accompany the NewsGator Mobile reader for HTML-enabled devices.

All three mobile products synchronize with the NewsGator family of products, anchored by NewsGator Online, the company's Web-based aggregator, allowing customers to read content and manage their subscriptions seamlessly from any device.

NewsGator recently acquired the Windows Mobile reader (formerly called SmartRead) and SmartFeed, a mobile podcatching application. Kevin Cawley, creator of the products, has joined the NewsGator team to oversee the company's mobile product development.

This RSS aggregator is designed specifically for any Windows-based mobile device including Pocket PCs and Smartphones. Written to take advantage of the NewsGator Online API, the Windows Mobile reader features a familiar and easy-to-use interface. Articles and subscriptions will be fully synchronized across NewsGator's entire suite or products.

It will enter beta in the spring of 2006, with general availability slated for Q2 2006 and an expected price of US$29.95 including a one-year subscription. A preview of the application is available at

The Mobile J2ME Reader aggregator was created for any J2ME-capable mobile phone or PDA including RIM BlackBerries, Palm Treos and many models from Motorola. The reader offers a rich interface for quick access to feeds, and fully synchronizes with NewsGator's suite of products. It will also enter beta in the spring of 2006, with general availability slated for Q2 2006 and an expected price of US$29.95 including a one-year subscription.

The Windows Mobile Podcatcher (SmartFeed) is currently available free of charge and works on any Windows-based mobile device. In the coming months, SmartFeed's functionality will be integrated into the other NewsGator mobile applications, and will synchronize with NewsGator Online.

Editor note: The original press release sent out by Newsgator contains a quote from yours truly: ""SmartFeed is an easy to use tool for subscribing to and consuming podcasts on mobile devices without having to be tethered to a PC," said Mauricio Freitas of Geekzone. "
