SoftMaker Office 2006 for Linux and FreeBSD Released
German software vendor SoftMaker has released SoftMaker Office 2006 for Linux and FreeBSD, an office suite for computers running Linux or FreeBSD that reads and writes all Microsoft Word and Excel files.

The company says there is a large repertoire of free software for both systems, but often some of the free options do not match the feature set of market leader Microsoft Office.

Included in SoftMaker Office 2006 are the latest versions of TextMaker and PlanMaker, two of the company's popular stand-alone applications, now combined into one integrated package.

Together, TextMaker 2006 and PlanMaker 2006 cover most of the functions users require from office suites, covering high-end features such as change tracking, balloon comments, fully AutoShapes-compatible drawing, and a fully Excel-compatible charting engine.

The software comes in a single package containing executables for both operating systems and is priced at US$69.95 or EUR 69.95. A free 30-day trial version is available for download.
