In conjunction with Nokia Siemens Networks, Vodafone New Zealand has today demonstrated the next iteration of its 3G network offering speeds of up to 21.1Mbit/s download.
Currently Vodafone’s network is being upgraded to 7.2Mbit/s but Vodafone is already trialling 21.1Mbit/s HSPA Plus technology.
Vodafone GM of Networks Mike Davies says the demonstration today is right on schedule as part of Vodafone’s roll out plan.
“We said we’d roll out HSPA Plus and while this is only an alpha trial, it’s a sign that we’re well under way.”
Vodafone New Zealand is the first operator in the world to roll out Nokia Siemens Network’s HSPA Plus technology.
“Vodafone has always been a pioneer, and with this field trial they have clearly led the way again. Thanks to the collaborative, trusting relationship that we have built up over years, we are able to support Vodafone New Zealand in being the first operator to demonstrate this new mobile technology in New Zealand,” says Andrew Button, Head of Vodafone New Zealand Customer Team, Nokia Siemens Networks.
The next step is for select Vodafone customers to being using the network on a limited trial basis later this year.
