Mars New Zealand enjoyed the sweet taste of success last night when it was named overall winner at the JRA Best Workplaces Awards for 2010.
The fast moving consumer goods company came out on top of the 245 organisations from around the country across a range of sectors which entered this year’s JRA Best Workplaces Survey for the coveted title of New Zealand’s Best Workplace.
The Best Workplaces Survey is New Zealand’s largest annual workplace climate-employee engagement survey and uses confidential feedback from organisations’ employees to rate their employers.
The overall winner, as well as size category winners and several other awards for outstanding workplace achievements were presented at the awards ceremony at the Langham Hotel in Auckland last night.
This is the first time Mars has scooped the grand prize, although it has come close in previous years- winning the medium-large workplace category in 2008 and coming third in its category in 2007 and 2009.
As the local arm of Mars International, Mars New Zealand is known for its well-loved confectionary brands such as M&Ms, Snickers and Starburst, and also has a Petcare manufacturing site in Wanganui which supplies New Zealand and Australia.
Mars New Zealand was also winner of the medium-large size category and other winners by size from the 35 finalists were Redvespa Consultants in the small category, The Retail Institute in the small-medium category and Warehouse Stationery in the large category.
Wellington-based Redvespa Consultants Limited (Redvespa) took out top honours from 9 other finalists in the Best Small Workplace category. Now in its 11th year, the Best Workplaces Survey has become the benchmark for best employer claims.

The winners were announced at an awards ceremony and dinner at the Langham Hotel in Auckland on Thursday, November 11 where the Minister of Labour, Hon. Kate Wilkinson, was a guest speaker.
