2degrees Mobile launches IDEOS X5 powered by Android 2.2
Following its international launch at the CES show in Las Vegas last month, New Zealand consumers will be amongst the first in the world to experience the IDEOS X5. The company says at NZ$549 it will challenge the market leaders on features as well as price.

“This is the one you’ve been waiting for,” says Larrie Moore, Chief Marketing Officer at 2degrees; “If you have been after a top of the line smartphone, but daunted by the price, this is the phone for you.”

Mr Moore says Huawei’s IDEOS X5 is the third and highest-spec smartphone in the company’s range of handsets running on the Android 2.2 operating system, and has a number of new features that will make it highly competitive in the market.

“The IDEOS X5 offers an outstanding mobile internet experience thanks to the large high-definition 3.8 inch capacitive touch screen, and a Qualcomm 800MHz Snapdragon processor,” says Mr Moore.

Other key features include Android 2.2 (FroYo) operating system, support for HSDPA 7.2Mbps mobile technology, 5.0 megapixel camera and LED flash, with 720p HD video capture capability, 2GB of user on board memory, with MicroSD (up to 32GB),

Mr Moore says that the IDEOS X5 builds on the reputation established by the very popular IDEOS U8150 as a high quality smartphone that delivers on performance and functionality for an exceptional price. “Side-by-side with competitors, the IDEOS X5 delivers incredible value and we are delighted to be the only operator in New Zealand with the handset.”

“Savvy customers looking for a deal right now should seriously consider switching to 2degrees Pay MonthlyTM and taking advantage of our Get a Pay Monthly Bonus where customers can get big bucks off the new X5 with any of our Pay Monthly Plans.”

Huawei’s Regional Director of Marketing for Devices, Alan Wong, says, “2degrees continues to offer tremendous value and a growing range of Android devices in the New Zealand market. The IDEOS X5, with its strong features and specifications is well placed to further strengthen 2degrees’ position in New Zealand’s smartphone segment.”

The IDEOS X5 is available through 2degrees retail stores and dealers around New Zealand from Tuesday, 16 February.
