TEDxAucklnzd 2012 to bring TED style presentations to Auckland
TEDxAucklnzd is set to feature 18 TED style presentations and three musical performances on the 6th October 2012 at the Aotea Center. The event will run from 10am to 5.30pm featuring mostly New Zealanders, some currently from New Zealand and others in exciting roles elsewhere in the world. All will have seriously fascinating things talk about for a maximum of 18 minutes.

The list is still being finalised but already includes a number of top scientists, and some world leading professionals, artists, educators and technologists.

TED is an annual event where some of the world's leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. "TED" stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design -- three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it "the ultimate brain spa" and "a four-day journey into the future."

TEDx are local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

Pre-sales for tickets to the event will follow an initial speaker announcement expected early August. Two further announcements will follow, with the full line-up to be revealed by early September.

Media Partner for TEDxAucklnzd event are leading publishers in New Zealand independent online content led by the Scoop Media Cartel, comprised of scoop.co.nz, Werewolf, PublicAddress ,TheStandard, Pundit, Theatreview, Spareroom and LiveNews

Joining the Cartel to promote the event are two of New Zealand's largest online news communities, Geekzone and Kiwiblog.

To register to receive an invitation to book tickets during the two day pre-sales window you can contact the publishers of any of the Scoop Media Cartel & Friends websites.

TEDxAucklnzd is being produced by Elliott Blade, "with the support of an army of volunteers". “The TEDx brand hasn't yet infiltrated New Zealand to the extent it has in other countries around the globe. For many people this will be their first TEDx experience and I hope that it will be the beginning of an inspiring and thought provoking relationship with TED and the TEDx platform. We have chosen to host the event at Aotea Centre in Central Auckland so that we can accommodate the expected demand. It will be a great day to hear dynamite talks from truly remarkable New Zealanders. The event will present a diverse mix of speakers, some fascinating unknowns amongst the headliners, and those attending will find it a melting pot of surprise and delight.”

With production management by Mikee Tucker (LOOP/Fly My Pretties), a cast of 18 speakers and three musical interludes this event looks set to be a SERIOUSLY HOT day of thought provocation.

TEDxAucklnzd is being sponsored by Kordia, Yellow, New Zealand Post, Whybin\TBWA Group and Powershop.
