New Zealand developers create shadowy app
‘Pimp My Shadow’ iPhone app has just launched on the iTunes App Store and the developers are claiming it as a unique world first shadow editing app.

New Zealand-based developer Smart Digital Marketing released the app on January 3rd and says it’s different from other photo editing apps. “There are other photo apps but none allow you to edit your portrait and add multiple layers behind your image. Most stamp an image in front of your photo,” says Brendan Muller who is the main developer at Smart Digital Marketing.

The free photo effects app lets people quickly add realistic yet outlandish shadows to their portrait photos. Users can add anything from an angel shadow to the grim reaper to their background.

In addition to the 100 shadow effects, there are 55 backgrounds such as a brick wall or iron fence to choose from. The app also integrates Facebook, Instagram and Twitter allowing people to show off their creations with friends and family.

The app incorporates a ‘freemium’ buying model which means people download and test the app for free - then unlock all shadow effects and backgrounds via an in-app purchase for $0.99USD which represents excellent value.

Developers say downloads are growing quickly. “We’re only six days in and downloads are taking off. People are creating some cool shadow effects. You’re really only limited by your imagination as to how great your photo can look,” says Mr Muller.
