Cough Telstraclear TBox Well TCL used both strategies with the TBox - they delayed it (by at least a year iirc) and when they finally did release it, well you know the rest

Ouch that is quite high. Is that going to be in HD I wonder? +1 Ouch.? And yeah, in HD for that price?! As far as I'm aware Igloo content is SD only. Yeah $15 is too steep for a single match. I had heard that the freeview channels would be in HD, but maybe not? Freeview at least should be in HD as most other non satellite receivers are HD as standard.

The igloo simply tunes to the Freeview DVB-T muxes, i.e., you are watching the native Freeview HD transmissions. As for the single Sky T2 mux it can only support 38 Mbps max which provides 12 H.264 channels at 3 Mbps or so. Ross ADSL2+ sync (Kbps): 11577/945, attenuation (dB): 33.0/16.9, Noise margin (dB): 11.5/11.5

Anyone had any update on when the boxes will be available . Keep getting the same message from Igloo for last two months ( Its delayed but will be soon ) lol

Hi Kiwisteve, In early July, Chaz Savage (CEO) announced that they were going to trial Igloo for a month using 25 selected comsumers and, on 17th July, we set up one of those 25 in Hamilton for his one month trial. But then, on 28th August, we set up a trialist in Morrinsville for her one month trial! So I guess that means they're now looking at October? Cheers, WildBill

So far I have been unimpressed with their email responses on delays and general user questions , you get the ( nearly ready ) standard email every time and they could not even answer a simple question which was ( How does the user pay the monthly fee ) ?? S

S Igloo really seems like something that sounded like a good idea during a brain storming session but in the cold light of day didn't seem so great after all. The market niche they are trying to hit is people who need a Freeview box and want some 'basic' Sky channels along with some pay per view stuff like sport. But they have to be careful not to cannibalise 'real' Sky so the pay per view sport is priced high enough that there isn't a mass change by Sky subscription payers. This is a small market and not likely to grow. My call is Igloo will melt to a small puddle which will evaporate leaving only memories. Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

In my opinion , the box is crippled from day one , no PVR function to USB external drive . This is often the number one question from people doing the swap from analogue to freeview digital , Can we record it ? Even the basic Freeview or Satellite box has that feature these days !! Yes I would say it might have a short life !!

I'd say not even Sky are sure. I would say that issue is symptomatic of the wider problem for Sky with Igloo. They add a record function and MySky becomes that little bit less attractive. Sure, not everybody would switch if record function is added but the question is; When does Igloo become a realist alternative to the average Sky subscriber and how do we offer a service people will pay for without reaching that point? I don't think Sky ever managed to answer that question and that will sink Igloo. Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?
