It just has the same old line of " We are really disappointed to have to say that at this time IGLOO is simply not ready to launch" that they've been spinning since mid September..

A couple of thousand facebook followers is tiny though for something that has had quite a lot of publicity, and only 600 twitter followers.

That was an irony post. Many companies seem to think a Facebook page will do wonderful things for them. And certainly this is not the case. Also, Facebook fans are not "loyal". Most people in the industry believe people "like" pages and "follow" brands either to use as a way to complain/get support or to enter competitions...

The longer it is delayed the more of a failure it is likely to be,

The biggest selling point for this box has to be the analog switch off campaigns,

They have now missed Hawkes Bay, and unless they pull finger they will miss the rest of the South island when it goes in April 2013,

Getting people to shell out $$$ for an extra box when they already have DTT freeview just makes the path to success so much harder....

just kill off Igloo already
it was a failure once they released prices for sports - $15-20 a game? gotta be kidding me - thats $60 a month for All Blacks or $100+ for Super Rugby - so be cheaper to get Sky

and Igloo did not provide recording capabilities so thats a fail

Yes  exactly ,  and I had a quick look at one of the test boxes recently  ,  and in my opinion ,  its horrible   ,
takes ages to boot up   plus the menus seemed very slow to react to the remote control commands

I don't know if tvnz could cope with two STB failures, so I do expect it to launch eventually, but doesn't look like they will be selling it in the led up to christmas, as products should be released now, which is a fail. At least tivo lives on without them.

NonprayingMantis:
MikeAqua: I would buy an ABs game for $15 if they were playing decent opposition (Aussie, SA, Argies). Probably only 6 - 10 games per year. Every time we go to the pub to watch the ABs it costs us at least $60. With PPV $40 buys the game and beer/chips for two. Therefore $20 saved per game, so 10 games pay for the $199 box.

To me live televised sport is comparable to going to see a movie. You are seeing something new/current. Movies cost $15 per viewer. PPV ABs $15 per household, so probably not bad value on that comparison.

SD sport might put me off. But then maybe I am currently watching SD sport at the pub anyway?

well if you are currently paying $60 per game for 10 games a year ($600 per year) then you might as well buy Sky basic for 12 months and Sky sports for the 2 months the tri-nations (quad-nations?) is on and it will cost you about the same AND you get access to all the other sports during that time and Sky basic for the rest of the year.

And that's assunming you only have an interest in watching 6-10 ABs games.  If you want to watch your super rugby team or ITM cup team, or thebreakers, or the black caps, or anything else then your economics quickly become bad.

Let's say you want to watch your super rugby team as well as all the ABs games.
Super teams play around 12-15 games and the ABs play about 15 in non-world cup years.
so say 30 games a year at $25 a pop  (I doubt rugby is going to be $15) comes to $750.  might as well buy Sky with Sky sports for that as it won't cost much more and you get ALL sports and Sky Basic.

I really just watch the tier one ABs games, and I know a number of people in this category.

The day sky start playing decent movies on Saturday night I will sign up, till then I am boycotting.

I tell them this every-time they call to offer me their latest deal.
