hdinsider:  Getting excited now!

I really wish I could get excited that easily.  I'm looking forward to seeing the concrete final pricing structure.  ie how much for a one off game and will this be available in HD with 5.1 sound etc?  Will you be able to subscribe to all games of this type or will they all be one offs etc?

As stated previously, 12 channels on a single T2 mux running at 38 Mbps max means each channel runs at 3 Mbps. There is no HD ability.

Based on what I have been using, sport events vary in price. Ranging from $15-$40. $15 convered an ITM Cup game, while $20 covers All Blacks. $40 was some wrestling big event and also Shane Cameron Vs Danny Green. You cant subsribe to all games of one type (Union for eamaple) unless they change it when it launchs.

I think paying $100 (Probably be more, $150 maybe?) or whatever for a season of Super 15 would be good, although I dont like Union. Packaged deals are a good idea imo

They're sourced from the Freeview transmissions... so TV ONE, TV 2 and TV 3 are HD.
The box is obviously capable of receiving and decoding HD. It is just what Sky decide to offer.

Completely off topic for this thread, but I'll bite...

Igloo is a joint TVNZ/Sky venture so it is hardly surprising that TVNZ would make it possible to reuse their Freeview transmissions. It is cheaper than broadcasting additional SD versions. Regional advertising is sorted. Makes perfect sense to me.

Freeview satellite is completely different. From Sky's perspective I don't see any persuasive business case for Sky to unencrypt those channels. Satellite bandwidth is extremely costly. Sky are paying to put those channels up there. Their subscriber subs cover those costs. Why should access for some people (ie. Freeview Sat viewers) be subsidised by Sky subscribers?
Now if TVNZ were to offer to cover a proportion of those transmission costs in exchange for unencrypting them that might be a different story. However, TVNZ seems more keen to have regional advertising than have HD for Freeview satellite. I guess they think the regional advertising service has a business case in terms of advertising dollars brought and is more important than HD for the ~13% of the country that doesn't have access to Freeview HD.

That's my take on it anyway.

Igloo is DTT so pointing to free versions of tv1,2 and 3 in HD is as easy as pie.

What happened to your post WildBill? Has the launch on Monday been delayed again?

Just incase you guys were interested in getting movies on Igloo you are some what "limited". Sure there are tons of movies, but if you search for "Batman" "Star wars" "Lord of the rings" and im sure many other blockbusters (I only tried those 3) there are no results. You would think they would have put in some old school classics.

"Igloo is coming soon" At least that is according to a Noel Leemings adverting street sign, so they must have been told about an imminent release date in the very near future.

Will they give you a receipt for the "charitable" donation if you pay per view this?
