singingbird: this mite fit the bill, it does, both SKY TV(nds) and freeview http://jayx.co.nz/receivers.html Ferguson with NDS (sky) - Iredeto CAM and Freeview $190, i dont know what the quality of the unit would be, but for 190 its a idea, to help out with your sky at bach idea.

Thanks for that - I'll investigate that option a bit further. I suspect that it will not work with the SKY card but worth a look anyway

I am not dure if getting an additional SKY decoder would help anyway, I am pretty sure each sky card will only work with the serial number of the decoder it is registered to. (with the exception of the techicians cards)

If it is legit getting a second decoder and having it at the bach is relatively cheap, especially if you are already paying for the HD ticket, but I would want to ask SKY if that is okay first

Prime used to have an arrangement with Sky to install a dish and supply a decoder with a card that was set purely to watch Prime for those (like me) who couldn't get a good terrestrial Prime signal. The install cost $150, and there was no ongoing rental on the decoder. So, this type of installation at the beach would have been ideal for you, since you would have been able to simply take your Sky subscription card from home to the beach and replace the Prime-only card.

Now that Prime is available over Free-view, I guess there is no need to have this arrangement anymore

the other options is 'losing' your decoder + asking sky how much a replacement would be. Then you'd be essentially buying a decoder. Penfald - no, cards are not linked to boxes, a card will work in any box assuming its the right card type.

A freinds one got stolen when their sleepout was broken into for the PS2, the box was recovered from a kid down the street after they had paid the several 100 that sky wanted for it on insurance. The insurance company took the box as it was theirs and they were not sure what happened to them. Perhaps sky buy them back or perhaps there is some warehouse full of them somewhere?

In anycase, the only way you would find one was if someone had paid sky for it and didnt have an insurance claim in on it to make the box become the insurance company.

I have also tried to buy a prime only box but they wouldnt sell one without the isntaller coming out at the time. I am a bit miffed to have missed out on that now.
