I See the RWC will be in 3D but the bit that interested me was this from http://www.skytv.co.nz/Default.aspx?tabid=202 and this line
“While we are still working through the technical and operational requirements it is our intention to offer these 3D matches to SKY subscribers and our hospitality industry partners.”.

So you'll be able to see the tears actually rolling down the ABs faces when they choke to the French in the quarters

I'm guessing you'll need to take your own glasses to the pub.. And make sure you have the right brand to the TV they have!

DS9: ... our hospitality industry partners.”.

Can you really call someone a partner that you overcharge for live sporting events? Go back to the Tua vs Cameron fight:

Sky charged bars $1500 to screen the match, for a main event that lasted less than four minutes, and publicans say they will pay that money again only if the event justifies it.

this is the most meh technology out there for the home IMO. I'd go watch a game in the cinema, but yeah

I think it's better to invest more in HD personally.

Would much rather see more HD stuff, at least we're going to get ESPN HD soon...

That's why the ABs are playing them in the pool stage, so the only time they would play them again is in the Final, which France is unlikely to get to.

I wonder how they'll do this...
For games shown at pubs, surely a broadcast format that works with polarised glasses will be ideal.
But for home viewers, a majority of people tuning in will have the 'side by side' format, meaning Sky will need to show the 3D matches on two different channels as well as the standard 2D format.

With 3D coming out on pretty much all TV's for 2011, it's not surprise to see this move come about. And having seen the Football W/Cup 2010 on 3D BluRay, it is a pretty cool spectacle...

Well that's a bit different from what Sky was saying a year or so ago - they were fairly emphatic that RWC was not going to be 3D broadcast enabled, citing the technology was too new, and there wasn't sufficient penetration of 3D sets in NZ.

Nevertheless, I'm pleased to see a turn-about, and will probably boost the uptake of 3D sets for those hard core fans. Unfortunately, not in my budget :-(, I'm not that rabid enough ...

Yay, blurry RWC.

"Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Yeah, but you are not going to.
They were already recording in 3D for Europe, so if they can display it, why not?

I imagine they will have a seperate 3D world cup channel which you pay some amount (like the rugby channel)
They will just get rid of a couple of PPV movie channels for the duration of the cup like they did with the commonwealth games.

I dont have a 3D TV - so would more likely to be watching big games at a mates, or cinema.

Agreed, but the new LG Cinema 3D tech is purportly better than the current home 3D tech, and less blurry / fuzzy.

No doubt this is their premium range, may take a year or so for it to trickle into the not-so-premium range ...

Sucks if you already have purchased a 3D TV.
