Topic # 92987 10-Nov-2011 13:32 Send private message

I’ve recorded two things from SoHo so far – Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.  In both cases they seem to only take up a tine portion of my MySky hardrive, which would indicate they are not in HD.

I thought these programs would be in HD?  Anyone know why they might not be?

(I have HD ticket – other things record in HD and take up loads of room on my Hard drive, and I have multiroom which gives you HD ticket for free)

Normally when a particular programme on an HD channel is in HD, sky write 'HD' in the synopsis. But on Soho, they never do this instead they show a blue HD logo in the right hand corner of the synopsis window.

But I was watching trueblood the other day and the quality wasn't as good as I've seen before so I too am doubting. If it in fact HD.

They are advertising it as available in HD with MySky HDi or MySky + (little pop ups at the start of some programmes).

Hopefully they have only lowered the quality for the free month.

I found on the old mysky (not +) a 1 hour program takes 2% Sd or 4% HD.
I have recored a couple of things and i thought they were in HD. The name in the play list says HD.

I have watched first two episodes of Boardwalk Empire Season Two and there is absolutely no doubt that it is in HD.  Will watch first two episodes of Game of Thrones on the weekend but certain that they will be in HD also.

I am loving Soho, although My MySky recorder is filling up too quickly!.   In addition to Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones I am also series linking Six Feet Under, Treme, The Hour, The Killing and Dexter.  I am really looking forward to watching the new season of Dexter in HD.

how much space is it taking up in your hardrive?   It takes up barely any space for me, yet (to my eyes) looks like it is in HD.

Most programmes on Soho are only taking up 3% of my memory.  Having said this, 2 hour movies are only taking up 5 - 6 % of my memory.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Game of Thrones last night and they were definitely in HD.  They looked stunning and Dolby Digital soundtrack was very good as well.   Also watched The Killing and that was in HD also.

Checked my hard disk. Game of Thrones and Boardwalk empire both only take up 1%. Considering coronation street (which last the same amount of time) takes up 3-4% in HD then GoT and BE are definitely not being recorded in HD.

Can someone else check their hard disk please?

Game of thrones 3% for 66 minutes. Uk tv 66 minute program 1%.

Do you have hd after the channel name i.e. "Soho HD", if just Soho maybe hd ticket not on, it wouldn't effect free to air channels as don't need hd ticket for those.

I have multiroom so get hd ticket for free, but once when canceled movies the CR cancelled my hd ticket. Even though made no difference to me at time rang up to get it turned back on. Knew it was canceled as the hd letters vanished off the sky hd channels.

I'm pretty fussy and very happy with quality.

Each episode of Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire Definitely takes 3 - 4% of my hard drive.   If they are only taking up 1% of your hard drive then it looks like you do not have the HD ticket and are only getting Standard definition picture on Soho

Having seen both the HD and SD channels for SoHo, Game of Thrones looks very nice in HD.

I dont have the HD ticket and am getting it in HD. If its only $10 to keep it in HD and I dont need the ticket then I will keep it, but if they are expecting $20 to get it in HD then I will stick to getting my shows that other way. None of the stuff is a must see, just nice to see's so $20 for it in HD is really taking the micky.

If you haven't got the HD ticket then wouldn't you just be viewing in SD?   My understanding is if you don't have the HD ticket on Sky then the only channels that you will see in HD on Sky are TV1 TV2 and TV3.

If you record a show on Soho how much space does it take up on your MySky?

Its definatly in HD, and I dont have the HD ticket unless it was part of the half price install deal. Not recorded anything but it sure isnt SD either when they were advertising on it or now shows have started.

To check the resolution of a show.

1) In the menu of the MySky, set the HDMI output to 'Pass-Through'
2) Use the info (or display etc) button on the TV remote, most TVs will display the resolution of the current signal.

eg: Sony LCDs will show 1080i or 576 in the top left corner.

It could be a very good upscaled SD version of the programme.
