This is my first post so bear with me if I don't explain myself very well

I have a MySky box in the lounge connected to a TV.

A Sky RF Modulator (Model ASM6311) is connected to the Sky box and the output from the modulator is hard wired by cable (coax I think) to the bedroom TV and is connected as an antenna input.

It has been working fine for two years, but tonight the bedroom TV is not getting a signal. The lounge TV is working fine.

There are no children in the house so nothing has been physically disturbed.

I checked the Modulator and I seem to remember that the channel light used to be permanently displayed, but now there is nothing. I unplugged the power and plugged it back in with no change.

Firstly, am I correct that the Modulator should dislpay the channel light?

If I am correct, does that mean the the modulator is now faulty?

Where do I buy a replacement in the Wellington area or do I have to contact Sky?

Thanks in advance

I do not have a modulator and don't know if it should show the channel number, but I'd expect at least a light of some kind. See if you can find another power supply with the same connector, the same output voltage, the same polarity (usually on the rating label is a circle-and-line symbol denoting the 2 contacts and their polarity) and don't worry about the current because whatever you try will be enough. The power supply is the most likely to fail.

Hi Fieldmouse,

Your external modulator should continuously display the frequency channel that the modulator is set to (eg:- "38"). If you have nothing on the display, then it is faulty.

You probably paid extra to Sky for the modulator when you upgraded to MySky, so in theory they should replace it for you for free, so I suggest you contact Sky about it.

But even if you have to pay $60, $70, $80 for it through Sky (and they fit it for you for nothing), that would probably be cheaper than what you can buy one through an electronics dealer, because the Sky modulators are "stereo" models which usually sell for $80 to $90 in the shops. -(the "mono" ones are $60 to $70.)

Cheers,    WildBill.

Thanks WildBill

You are correct in that it was installed by Sky, so I will contact them in the first instance

Niel, you were correct in that it was the power supply

The sky technician came within 4 hours of me calling them and replaced the power supply at no charge because it was a Sky supplied device

All working well now

Thnaks to you both

Slightly off topic but does anybody know if you can buy these from Sky if you aren't a customer. I have used one of Sky's one before and they seem very good (and good value) so was keen to get one but not a sky customer.

They are quite good, but they do have some other images of the signal over the band so you have to watch what you put them on.

Certainly a lot better than the useless ones built into the SD sky boxes.

Hi Benmurphy66,

I doubt that Sky would sell you one if you aren't currently a Sky customer. Probably your best bet would be to buy one off a Sky Installer (if you know one).

Cheers, WildBill

Then of course you have to get a remote transmitter so that you can chnages channels without getting out of bed.

Works really well
