Thinking about getting sky tv for my room i have  built-in freeview  for my tv but no aerial had bunny ears but lol  so was thinking about getting sky for good reception.
Already have a UHF aerial in the lounge will the dish interfere with my flatmates reception, he doesnt want sky but said i was welcome to get installed.
Also do i really need a phone jack installed i already have on for my router and im not going to get PPV movies etc..

Hi, the dish and or Sky will not interfere with UHF reception, but if you just want better reception of Freeview channels why not just get an outside antenna installed, unless more channels are what you are after.

If you dont want a phone line connected just tell the installer you dont want one and accept the fact that you cannot do certain things (ie PPV etc) and they will leave it, there is no absolute requirement to install it.

Cheers
Cyril

I recall reading somewhere that they used the phone line to check the status of the box and stuff like that. Some people were using their sky boxes in multiple properties and got in trouble apparently?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but i was under the impression that it was supposed to be installed with the box.

Our MySky isn't connected to a phone line currently, and we have no issues with sky, but one was installed when the dish was.

And if you don't read the Sky magazine, tell the installer you do not want it or else they charge you for it. Sky Basic and Fatso (which is owned by Sky) is a good combination, been doing that for years. And never had a phone line plugged in because we're on VoIP and Sky does not work over it.

The on-line help says when you move you can take the equipment with you and plug it in if there is a dish already installed.  Don't think they ever track their equipment.

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up.

In my old flat the installer installed new line and my sync rates went to cabbage, main reason why i dont want them fiddling around with my current connection / line

In the place I was in about 6 years ago, the jack installed by the sky tech (from a previous tennant) used one wire from each of the two twisted pairs in the cable. *facepalm*

I know there are some good Sky installers out there, but most are just dragged off the street and trained to do the limited scope of what they do in a very short training session, some given no more than an hour. So the technicalities of transmission line theory are often overlooked.

Phone line absolutely not required
Don't think you can ditch the magazine any more (they made it part of the basic sub from memory)

U can ditch - its $2.60 if i'm correct but they do remove the price off your subscription if u ditch it...

and no dont need phone line installed

you can still order PPV etc - just ring Sky and order it that way - and you'll get the service - even without a phone line - as it comes off the satellite

worked for me - so am assuming it does come off the satellite as never had the phone line installed...
