Hi Guys, Just being curious, does anyone know if Skytv NZ is broadcast with a geographic lock? I'm a kiwi based in the UK and would really like to watch kiwi tv again and figured that since Sky broadcasts over a satellite, all I'd need would be a strong enough signal from Optus D1, a decoder and the all important active subscriber card! It doesn't seem necessary to plug in the modem so astronomical phone bills wouldn't be an issue, can anyone think of any barriers? Thanks in advance, Jason

Just the obvious. The beam footprint just covers NZ NOT the entire world. Ross ADSL2+ sync (Kbps): 11577/945, attenuation (dB): 33.0/16.9, Noise margin (dB): 11.5/11.5

Yes, they do broadcast via satellite, but unless you can come up with some new fancy nutrino based system, the big chunk of plant earth between the satellite above NZ and you in the UK will do a very effective job of ensuring that you get no signal ( even if you put the dish deep down in your basement)

Maybe a better solution: For freeview on your PC you try TVNZ on demand and TV3 ondemand? Then for isky you can use http://www.isky.co.nz/ (But you will need to be a valid sky account holder) For all of the above you will need to have a NZ Ip address. Search the net for a suitable provider that has an NZ server. I know Astrill has. Offense can never be given, only taken ...

Your best bet is to find somebody in NZ willing to let you use their iSKY account Professional IT Solutions at an Affordable Price.

NUP all water from my office here, and its flat, no hills on the water. all the way out the harbour entrance, still flat. Cyril

You guys forget that the universe is a large mirror ball with our solar system in the middle. All light and radio waves reflect off (inside of) the ball back to us so it looks like there are millions of stars, but there is actually only 1 and it is our sun. How else could space go on for ever? It just reflects indefinitely. So yes, you can get the signal from D1 anywhere in the universe. You can never have enough Volvos!
