Has anyone installed OM2008.12 yet?
If yes, what do you think?
Does FDOM work with it?

I've been using OM2008.12.  It's faster than fdom, and suspend and resume works well.   I don't think FDOM works very well with it however.

I did get the illume theme for enlightenment working, GPRS and tangogps, plus pythm with mplayer, but all of these required a fair bit of tinkering and applying fixes from mailing lists.

FDOM - Fat and Dirty OpenMoko - distribution aims to be based on latest supported release plus everything that works. 2008.12 is faster and more stable but seems to still  have a lot of side effects. So expect a new FDOM soonish when most of the apps are stable again and you don't have to work through all the mailing lists....

2008.12 is defenitly better but still needs some tinkering, also running android that looks cool but not really usable yet. It runs but still needs a lot of work on the hardware abstraction layer between the OS and kernel.. for instance shutdown does not work yet....

I have been using Om20087.12 since its release and have been quite impressed with it.  While it boots faster than 2008.8 I have found it runs very slowly.  This seems to be related to the large number of files (map tiles for TangoGPS) that I have on my SD card - for some reason qpe seems to constantly poll all the files on the card.  It has been quite reliable so far, but my usage has primarily been GPRS andf TangoGPS.  I have sent and received SMS and voice calls with no problems,

I have not tried FDOM with it and would be wary of trying this.  When I have tried installing Minimo on Om2008.12 it has resulted in me reflashing rootfs both times.

TangoGPS worked out of the box but GPRS requires fiddling,  With the latest unstable version of Mofi (0.03?) Wifi worked fine but has only been tested with open APs so far.  The Midori browser is rubbish.

If you look at the storage config for qpe in the qtopia directory, you can prevent it from indexing your map tiles, that may be making it go slow.

Let me know if you need me to find the exact details.

Thanks :)

I edited /opt/Qtopia/etc/default/Trolltech/Storage.conf and changed the entry for the SD card as follows:

[MountPoint0]
Name[] = SD Card
Path=/dev/mmcblk0p1
Removable = 1
Applications = 0
Documents = 0
ContentDatabase = 0

qpe is no longer consuming large amounts of CPU and it hovers around 94% idle now.

Yes, that sounds about right.
