tardtasticx: How do I do that? I saw the power tv button on the tivo remote but i dont want to try it until later tonight because it took like 4 minutes for tivo to turn on before

from link when i posted update

To program your remote to control your TV/stereo

Step 1
From TiVo Central, select Messages & Settings > Settings > Remote Control. This takes you to the remote control setup.

Step 2
Your TiVo® remote can control the power and volume of both your television and stereo. It can also control the 'TV Input' button on some televisions.

  • To control the power, volume and mute on your TV: select "Part 1: TV power, volume, and mute".

  • To control the volume and mute on your stereo: select "Part 2: A/V volume and mute".

  • To control the power, volume, and mute on your stereo: return to Part 1, but use the code you selected in Part 2. You should now be able to control the power on your TV and stereo at the same time.

  • To control the input setting on your TV: select "Part 3: TV Input".

Please note: If you choose to control both your TV and stereo power simultaneously, the two may occasionally become out of sync (one turns off when the other turns on). To reset, manually turn your TV on or off to match your stereo. You can then use the remote as normal.

Step 3
Select your television or stereo brand from the list.
Please note:
Hitachi is used in this example.

Step 4
Follow the on-screen instructions for each code until you find one that works.
*Please note:
Make sure you press the buttons shown on the screen for the type of device you're trying to control.

Step 5
Press SELECT to continue.

*Please note: If none of the listed remote codes work, go to How do I perform a code search if none of the codes for my manufacturer work?

Few more questions. How do I topup my Caspa Wallet? And we downloaded some free short films and it didnt download it. It said on tivo support that we should wait an hour. Why so long? Will it do this every time?

Is the stuff that is free any good? I can't see any info on their website of what is free. The paid stuff is a bit pricey for what it is.

If you have registered a credit card to your account it will prompt you on screen to topup when required.

The first time I used caspa it took ages before I could start watching but now it only takes a few minutes.

farcus: Telecom have cut the price of TIVO again for their landline customers.

As long as you have your landline service with Telecom you can purchase a TIVO for $360.00

The free stuff isn't actually that good. hahaha. And the new release movies are reasonable considering renting one overnight at the shop down road is $8. + petrol/transport + convenience. Worth it IMO. And the fact its un-metered makes it stand out from iTunes.

Yeh we only downloaded a free one. Guess thats why it didn't show up. How long do you have to view the movie? Can you view it as many times as you want withen a certain time frame? We usually get a movie out on saturday so if its gonna take this long for its first purchase I might pay for it at like noon or something and hopefully its ready by night to watch.

I was thinking that too. Only thing I think you have to do is stand there in the shop for about 5-10 mins while the CSR fills in about 5 pages of stuff, gets you to sign 4 sheets of paper and carry a half tonne box through the mall. hahaha. I can't believe how big this thing is though. Un-real.

That is one of the reasons these things failed to sell in NZ. Really stores that actually sell TVs such as HN or NL should be stocking them. Or telecom stores should also sell TVs. Telecom have missed such an opportunity, but it is just like Ferrit, they seem to always miss the boat on what potentially could have been a winner. You have to wonder how their top execs can be paid so much.

Does it say what sort of warrenty it comes with. I would think that if you are paying $10 per month for 3 years, that they would cover any fault within that period. It maybe a good reason to pay it off monthly.

I wouldn't say that was normal for any kind of financing arrangement.  If you bought something from harvery Norman and paid it off over 3 years would you expect different warranty coverage to someone who paid outright?

Generally you have a week to start watching it, but once you start watching it you can view as often as you like for the 2 days before it is deleted. there are exemptions to this but it tells you when you download.

I just purchased a tv show and it was ready to start viewing in less than 2 minutes.

My only issue is that everything I am downloading is increasing my broadband usage, I have called telecom and they are looking in to it...
