Topic # 68791 28-Sep-2010 12:25 Send private message

Hi All

I'm thinking of putting a request in to the financial controller for a second Tivo, but I have a couple of questions to ask here first.

1)  Can the now playing list show both Tivo's recordings in one list instead of having to select the other Tivo and then getting a list of what is on it.

2)  Do you have to setup your season passes on the Tivo you want it recorded on or will the software choose the Tivo based on free tuners?

Really what I'm asking is is there any sort of centralised control?

Thanks in advance

1) no
2) no

the "multi room" functionality is that you can see the other tivo at the bottom of the now playing list, and copy shows from the other tivo.

And you can apparently pause a show on one and continue watching it on the other. So for example pause a show in the lounge and finish watching it on a TiVo in the bedroom.

So if you copy a show can you start watching it before it finishes copying?

Is the copy reasonably quick? I could almost write the script for a show in the time it takes to copy to the PC.

Thanks for the replies.  Shame about no central control but still probably worth it.  Especially for $360.

I think if you are going to 'link' them in anyway you need the Home Network Package(another $120) Through that you can copy recordings between devices etc, but still they are not 'centrally' controlled

Otherwise you have to treat them as two completely separate recorders. I have two and find that works well. All the kids crap and regular programs go onto the one in the family room, and HD movies and doco's onto the one attached to the big TV

Artificial intelligence is no match, for natural stupidity!

i have two wired (i.e. not wireless) tivos and the transfer speed is fine - it allows me to start watching as soon as the transfer begins

I got my first one when they first came out so I have the home networking package already.

mmmm, tempting, not sure I can bring myself to pay $499 for one though (and no, getting a Telecom landline is not an option).

If they had the Prime EPG I'd probably do it though.
