We have 2 Tivo's and a PC all connected to the same home network.

Tivo 1 has the strange problem, it can see the PC, it can't see tivo 2
tivo 2 can see tivo 1 and the PC
PC can see both tivo 1 and tivo 2

tivo 2 has no problem getting recording off tivo 1 or PC
PC has no problem getting recordings off tivo 1 or tivo 2
tivo 1 will see tivo 2 for a little while right after a restart, it will transfer while it can still tivo 2, but very slowly.
tivo 1 can always see the PC and again transfers are very slow.

tivo 1 quite happly does it's daily EPG update.

any suggestions?

How are they getting their IP address? Manally or via DHCP? Ensure that you haven't allocated the same IP address twice if you're doing it manually. Also verify that subnet masks are being set correctly.

Are you sure the problematic device isn't connecting to the network at half-duplex? That'll cause all sorts of issues.

Also, what do you mean by "see?" If Tivo2 can "see" Tivo1, then that means there is connectivity between 1 and 2. i.e. Tivo2 wouldn't know Tivo1 was "there" unless Tivo1 was able to send confirmation data back to Tivo2.

Do you know what protocol they're using to "see" each other? What does your router see, does it see the MAC address of all 3 devices no problems?

Checkout the EPIC5 script I work on, LiCe. Makes console based IRC fun and easy to use, just like the old days!

Via the DHCP, automatically assigned, subnet mask is correct.

how do I tell if it half or full duplex?

I talking about the now playing list, going right to the bottom tivo 2 shows the PC and tivo 1 as avaliable devices to transfer from, tivo 1 only shows the PC

Yes the router see's both of them with their own ip addresses and mac's. I can type in the ip addresses in the location bar and the tivo welcome page appears for each.

Do you have any other pc's laptops on the network?  I had the same sort of problem but the cause was having pytivo running on a pc and a laptop.  Once I removed it from the laptop and rebooted both tivo's all was back to normal.

Also have you rebooted your switch?

2 PC's and a laptop on the network, but only 1 pc has the software on it to access the Tivo's, and yes the switch has been rebooted Smile
